1998 Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.

‘Liberty, Equality, Fraternity’ was a theme commissioned several times in 1998 for the 1798 Bicentenary Commemorations. Each one uses gold leaf and watercolour on paper.

These four images are photographs of photographs so the quality is woeful.

It is important to me that each commissioned piece is different while sufficiently resembling the original to satisfy the client.

With these I added a subtle Irish flag by painting the edges, or colouring a tiny area within the text.

Some versions lay flat, some were folded.

The text was the three words liberty, equality and fraternity and nothing else. This framed one was called ‘Discussion”.
